What Are Some Accessories That Can Make a Living Room Lively?

Your living room space is where you welcome friends and family, have movie nights, and kick your feet up after a long day. Decorating your living room involves deciding on the furniture layout and key focal points to selecting coaster designs for your coffee table. This space is usually the first thing people see in your home, so it’s understandable why you may feel the pressure of creating an elegant home design. Considering a 2021 study shows that 7 in 10 Americans plan to remodel or update their homes, you’re not alone. You can showcase your style while making your space more functional through accessorizing.

Although the furniture layout plays a significant role in your living room design, accessorizing can bring the room to life. Perhaps you want to transform your living room into a more inviting and beautiful space. The numerous living room accessory options can get overwhelming and confusing if you don’t know how to style your space. This article lists examples of some living room accessories to make your living space livelier and explains how you can place each piece to complement your space and provide a timeless living room look.

8 Stylish living room accessories that create a lively atmosphere

Below is a list of eye-catching and functional accessories that can elevate your living room:

1. A Clock

Selecting a unique wall clock design that complements your home decor and living room layout can add a touch of elegance to the living space. Depending on your style or whether you’re going for a vintage or minimalist design, there are several wall clock options you can choose from. Depending on your interior design preference, you can opt for metallic finishing materials or warm wood frames. If you have sufficient wall space, consider a large wall clock that can act as the room’s focal point, but if you have a small space or want a balanced arrangement, a small clock may suit you.

2. Throws

Throw pillows and blankets can add texture to your room design and provide a warm living space feel. You can tweak your throw blanket designs to suit your preferences by placing it on the back couch backrest, tossing it over the living room sofa armrest, or even hanging it on a blanket ladder in your living room. Consider throws made from natural faux fur and color palettes that complement your furniture layouts and add a pop of color to the space.

3. Coffee Table Books

Although books are for reading, you can elegantly accessorize your living room by stacking, arranging, and displaying them in a particular order. You can stack them from the biggest to the smallest on your coffee or side tables. Place additional accessories, such as an aromatic candle, on top of your stacked books for a more complete look.

Apart from creating an eye-pleasing aesthetic, aromatic candles offer functionality by adding scents to the room. Alternatively, installing a bookshelf can also provide additional book arrangement options. You can place some with the covers facing out, stack others horizontally, or display some with their bookends.

4. Mirrors

Mirrors often provide depth, and make a small room feel larger. You can also use mirrors to spread light around the living room, even if you have limited natural light coming into the room. Large mirrors can serve as a statement piece and focal point. Alternatively, you can create a gallery wall with smaller mirrors of different shapes and sizes arranged symmetrically.

5. Lamps

Natural light may be sufficient to light up the room during the day, but when night falls, you may want to consider alternative sources to light up the room. Ambient light from chandeliers, wall sconces, or pendant lights generally provide background light in the room, but task lighting options such as floor and table lamps are more functional. You can place your table lamp on a side table near an armchair to create a cozy reading nook. Consider a lamp design that complements your color scheme and interior design ideas.

6. Houseplants and Flowers

The greenery from houseplants such as rattan typically adds texture and a splash of color to the room, especially if you’re going for a boho home decor idea. The indoor plant placement options are vast, depending on the living room layout and available space. You can place them on open shelves, hang them from handwoven baskets, or decorate your fireplace and mantlepieces. Instead of buying your plant pots or flower vases from stores, you can DIY your own using leftover patterned tiles for a more personalized look.

7. Wall Art

Wall art can be an affordable living room accessory. Wall art placement determines the general room aesthetic and can make or break your design. Identify your focal points in the room first, and you can organize your wall art placement around them. For example, if you have a fireplace, you can place a painting or abstract wall art above it. A simple and minimalist design can help wall art and other items on the wall remain balanced.

8. Accent Wall

Rather than just having plain living room walls, you can create an accent wall by painting bold colors or installing wallpaper on one of the walls. Using accent walls, you can focus your space into a modern living room. If you want a more unique design, add texture to your accent wall by molding or wood paneling.

1 Application Terms: Your application, including the amount, cost, and approval, is subject to review and is not guaranteed. Applications are reviewed based on data you provide and one or more of the following: identity verification, bank verification, information from a third-party, a credit reporting agency, and/or prior experience through American First Finance (AFF).

Bank Loan: A consumer installment loan is originated by FinWise Bank, a Utah-chartered bank, Member FDIC and sub-serviced by AFF. The loan may be funded by the bank to the merchant for you to purchase item(s) and/or service(s). In some cases, the loan for returning customers is funded directly to your checking account for personal, family or household use.

Retail Installment Sale Agreement: A retail installment agreement is not a loan. You may enter into a Retail Installment Sale Agreement with a merchant to purchase item(s) and/or service(s). AFF may purchase the Agreement from the Merchant. An example of a retail installment transaction based on a 12-month term with 26 biweekly payments: if you make a purchase of $1,000 and make a $50 down payment with an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 169.53%, you will have 25 bi-weekly payments of $74.79 and 1 bi-weekly payment of $75.06. The total amount repayable will be $1,944.81 with full, timely payments over 12 months.

Lease: A lease is not a loan or credit transaction. It has several names: lease, lease-to-own, rent-to-own, or rental-purchase. With a lease, you select the item(s) and AFF purchases the item(s) from a Merchant. You take the item(s) home. AFF retains ownership until you pay for the item(s) plus rental fees. Other fees may be included, such as late, non-sufficient funds, delivery, and optional Liability Damage Waiver fees. As a result, the total amount you pay for leasing an item may be more than double the retail cost. You can cancel your lease at any time without penalty by contacting AFF. An example of a 12-month lease with weekly payments: if you lease a $1,000 item and pay a $50 (plus tax) processing fee, you will have 52 additional weekly rental payments of $46.11 to complete your lease. Your total lease payments will be $2,452.21 with full, timely payments over 12 months.

2 You will save money on interest, finance charges, or leasing fees when you pay the discounted amount during the Early Payoff Discount (EPD) period or by exercising the Early Buyout Option (EBO). You must make payments larger than your regularly scheduled payments by the EPD/EBO expiration date. You will make additional payments through the customer portal or by contacting the customer service team.
